Norwegian Sweater Design
Norwegian Knitting – Traditions and Technique
Inspired by beautiful Norwegian sweaters, designer Donna Kay created this workshop for the knitter who wants to learn the techniques needed to knit a sweater using traditional Norwegian patterns. Topics include history, garment construction, use of traditional stitch patterns and finishing techniques. Your class project will be creating your own sweater design or starting one of Donna’s designs using Harrisville’s wonderful palette of yarns.
Proficiency Level: Open to knitters with some experience who are comfortable with circular and/or double-point needles.
Class Materials: A variety of circular and double points in sized 1 – 3 (for Shetland style fingering weight) or 5 – 7 (for Highland worsted weight), stitch markers, pen and pencil.
About the Instructor
DONNA KAY A knitting instructor and designer for over 25 years, is also an accomplished handspinner. Known for her patient teaching manner, she delights in sharing her knowledge and passion for “Folk” knitting with her students. Donna is also a freelance knitwear designer and author for publications such as Interweave Knits, Spin Off, PLY and her company, Tree of Life Designs. She resides on a farm in New Hampshire with her husband, horses, a flock of sheep and a growing herd of spinning wheels.
