Mosaic Knitting with Simone Kereit
Date: May 18-19 (Fri-Sat)
Instructor: Simone Kereit
This two-day workshop will introduce students to the magic of mosaic knitting. Mosaic knitting is the easiest way to start working with two colors. Through the strategic use of slipped stitches, students will create intricate looking patterns while using only one color per row! No stranding or carrying a second color of yarn along the wrong side. In this two-day workshop students will learn the basics of mosaic knitting and apply their new knowledge to create their very own customized cowl or hat. Garter and stockinette versions of mosaic patterns will be explored, while working on understanding the concept through swatching. Students will also learn to read mosaic color charts (it's super easy!), and then cast on their first project: a hat or mitts (pattern provided). If preferred, Simone's mosaic designs are also available on Ravelry, or from her mosaic colorwork collection 'Karyai - Classical Beauty Meets Modern Forms'. Find it here: https://issuu.com/owlcatdesigns/docs/karyai_lookbook. On day two, students will be guided to customize their very own hat or cowl by either selecting from a library of mosaic stitches provided or graphing their own ideas.
Class level: Advanced beginner
Skills needed: Participants should know how to knit, purl, work in the round, cast on, and bind off. Experience working with two colors in NOT necessary!
