Hand Spinning Basics and Beyond with Donna Kay
Date: June 28-30 (Thurs-Sat)
Instructor: Donna Kay
This workshop is a confidence builder for spinners - whether you’re a new spinner or just haven’t spun for a while and need a refresher. The focus will be on the basics: adjusting your wheel for the best performance, how to handle and spin different preparations, and methods of plying and finishing. This class will teach you how to get repeatable results. You will be spinning a variety of fibers and preparations, trying different drafting methods, and learning to spin a consistent yarn.
A portion of the class will be spent preparing washed fleece for spinning. Try your hand at flick carding, hand carding, and combing. The focus will be on fleece characteristics and which method is best for each type of wool. You will be preparing and spinning fleece from different breeds, and leave with extra to bring home with you. If you do not have tools Donna will have plenty to share.
