Exploring Cables & Garments
Date: Sept 30 - Oct 1 (Fri - Sat)
Instructor: Norah Gaughan
Learn the ins and outs of knitting Norah’s cabled poncho pattern. Starting with learning the advantages of working cables from charts (or brushing up your chart reading skills), swatching possible alternate cables and learning how to make cable substitutions with an easy system. You’ll also explore yarn possibilities and learn Norah’s favorite cast ons and finishing (hint: her philosophy is make it pretty but keep it easy and enjoyable). This is a work at your own speed workshop, allowing beginners to learn the basics while more advanced students can delve deeper.
Make the garment to suit you. Explore the changes that will make the garment your own. Including: Changing the proportions, adding sleeves, making it a pullover, splitting the pattern to make a cardigan and having fun with the neck finishing. You’ll be able to try on the original poncho, as well as several fleece mockups and other related garments to determine what’s best for you before you start knitting. While we’ll be concentrating on one particular pattern, the ideas and skills you learn should prove useful in the future as well.
