The inspiration for this yarn came from canoeing through the watershed in Harrisville, New Hampshire. The water bubbles up from natural springs, flowing from the top at Spoonwood Pond down to the bottom at Lake Skatutakee. The names for each color were derived from various things I observed along the rivers, lakes, and stream as I paddled along. The color blends were designed to replicate the essence of the objects for which they are named. Water is the reason our village was established here. Every day the river brings more water, power, and life through our mill. Our watershed is an endless source of life and natural beauty. I hope you enjoy the yarn as much as we enjoyed spinning it.
dog eats yarn

Being a novice knitter, I really didn't know what to expect from the description of a soft-spun, minimally processed, "cushy" super-heathered woolen yarn, but know color is very important to me. After spending days on the computer looking for a dark brown yarn, I settled on Watershed "gatehouse". The color of the yarn is just as it is represented online and even more beautiful. Someone at Harrisville designs is a master colorist. And now I also know the meaning of minimally processed. While there is no apparent odor of "sheep" to me, my dog must have detected the essence of sheep because he blissfully destroyed a skein of yarn, so - be warned - put your kitting up if you have pets.

This is, hands down, my favorite worsted. Of all time. A true mid-weight, light, a bit airy but substantial, it can withstand some tugging. Soft, but still properly sheepy, and with a great hand. Swells beautifully with blocking. Not a huge color range, but wow, are those colors on point. Rich hues with subtle tweedy color combinations that add gorgeous depth to finished fabric. Considering the top-notch quality and the general awesomeness of Harrisville's past and present, it's a real honor to knit with Watershed.
